The great olive oil audit

Propulsion and the canteen share one budget line. It went as expected.

Finance flagged an anomaly: the propulsion budget and the canteen budget are the same budget.

The audit lasted three days and produced the following figures:

  • Litres purchased: 1,200.
  • Litres burned for science: 700.
  • Litres burned for lunch: 460.
  • Litres unaccounted for: 40, traced to the chef's emergency reserve, which is a salad.

Ruling

The board ruled that lunch is propulsion, citing morale-per-newton figures nobody could refute.

The line item has been renamed thrust, general. Finance has stopped asking questions, which we consider our greatest engineering achievement to date.
